CranioSacral Therapy at Zalben Zone Chiropractic
When you're suffering from a spinal or extremity joint misalignment, you may already know that you can find relief through chiropractic adjustment here at Zalben Zone Chiropractic. Sometimes though, joints and bones aren't the parts of your body that actually need adjusting. Tight tissues surrounding the spinal cord can also cause pain and other symptoms. Fortunately, this issue can be treated through a modality known as CranioSacral Therapy, which is a form of treatment we offer to our patients in Culver City, Inglewood and West LA.
A Natural Pain Relief Technique
To understand how this pain relief technique works, it's first necessary to know some neuro spinal anatomy. Your spinal cord and brain are bathed in cerebrospinal fluid and wrapped in a membranous layer of tissue called fascia. These components, along with bones of the skull, face, and spine, are collectively referred to as the craniosacral system. The purpose of this system is to help preserve the functional integrity of the central nervous system by nourishing its key structures.
However, systems don't always work as they should, and the craniosacral system is no exception. Physical and emotional traumas sustained throughout your life can cause fascia to react by tightening up. This tension has a negative effect on the very system these tissues are supposed to be helping. Problems associated with craniosacral dysfunction can range from neurological diseases and chronic pain syndromes to coordination problems, immune disorders, and joint pain and stiffness.
Craniosacral Therapy is designed to relieve the tension that contributes to these and other problems. This manual technique involves applying a barely-noticeable amount of pressure (less than 5 grams) along the spine. This "soft touch" is sufficient to relax and loosen tight fascia, restoring normal comfort, range of motion and neurological function.
Part of Your Whole Body Wellness Plan
Our chiropractor, Dr. Zalben, can evaluate your physical structure, medical history, and any past traumas that may have contributed to a craniosacral dysfunction. Your problems in this area may be related to other musculoskeletal problems such as chronic spinal misalignment, or what appears to be a sign of chronic misalignment, such as one leg appearing shorter than the other, may actually be caused by fascial tightness. By administering the right combination of therapies as part of our Zone Technique, we provide you with natural pain relief and whole body wellness.
