NeuroCranial Integration

Back pain can get in the way of daily life for many people. Injuries, advancing age, poor posture are just a few of many possible contributors. Spine realignment that includes neurocranial integration can have a very positive effect for people with back pain. At Zalben Zone Chiropractic, we offer neurocranial integration to residents of Culver City, Inglewood, and West Los Angeles.

Neuro Cranial Integration

Spine Realignment and the Brain

Your brain affects the health of your entire body. It is the master regulator of the nervous system, every organ, and all of the hormonal processes in the body. When there is tension on the nervous system or if tissues are fixated (locked up), the brain can’t function properly, causing the cerebral spinal fluid to not flow as it should and the circulatory system can’t do its proper job of supplying nutrients to the body and removing waste products. Spine realignment with neurocranial integration is a way to correct these problems by affecting the dura mater, or brain covering. The dura mater is responsible for the balance and health of the brain and nervous system.

Back Pain and Anatomy

A misalignment anywhere in the spine can result in back pain. However, a cranial bone misalignment is less well known. The 22 bones of the skull and the vertebral bodies protect the majority of the nervous system. The dura mater is a membrane that covers the brain and extends down the spine. It is attached to the skull, the first two neck vertebrae, and the sacrum, or tailbone. When the dura is out of alignment, it can pull on these structures, causing distortions throughout the nervous system.

NeuroCranial Integration

NeuroCranial integration is used by chiropractors to restore the proper function of the dura mater. The treatment aligns the cranial bones and brain hemispheres, takes tension off the nervous system, and promotes better flow of the cerebral spinal fluid. The integration procedure lasts about two or three minutes and no jerking, thrusting, or popping occurs, although most people feel a stretching sensation. Some describe it as a release in the neck and back of the head.
